Kizimkazi Festival puts tourism, culture and opportunities in spotlight

President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Friday officially closed the Kizimkazi Festival and Exhibition 2026, with the event highlighting Tanzania’s tourism potential, cultural heritage and economic opportunities.

Held at Makunduchi in South Unguja, the festival was organised under the theme “Kizimkazi Kumenoga; Shangwe na Fursa” (Kizimkazi is Thriving; Celebration and Opportunities).

The festival provided a platform for public institutions and other stakeholders to showcase tourism attractions, investment opportunities and cultural products while engaging visitors on the economic potential of the sector.

The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) was among the institutions that participated in the festival, using the event to promote the country’s national parks, particularly those in southern and eastern Tanzania.

TANAPA’s participation is part of efforts to broaden awareness of tourism attractions beyond the country’s most established destinations and encourage more visitors to explore parks in the southern and eastern circuits.

The authority’s presence at the festival also sought to promote the role of tourism in generating revenue, supporting local communities and contributing to the wider national economy.

For Tanzania, the promotion of lesser-visited tourism circuits remains important as the country seeks to diversify tourism products and spread the economic benefits of the sector across different regions.

The Kizimkazi festival provided an opportunity to link tourism promotion with culture and economic opportunities, reinforcing the potential of cultural events to support businesses and attract visitors.

The 2026 edition also highlighted the importance of partnerships between public institutions, communities and private-sector players in promoting Tanzania as a competitive tourism destination.

As Tanzania continues to expand its tourism offering, events such as Kizimkazi provide an avenue to showcase destinations, cultural heritage and business opportunities while strengthening the sector’s contribution to the economy.
