Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has reaffirmed the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar's commitment to strengthening trade, investment, tourism, aviation and the blue economy partnership with Kenya to unlock greater economic opportunities and improve the livelihoods of people in both countries.
President Mwinyi made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting at the State House in Zanzibar with Kenya's Ambassador to Tanzania, Catherine Karemu, who paid a courtesy call following the commencement of her diplomatic assignment.
During the meeting, President Mwinyi described Tanzania and Kenya's relationship as one built on a long history of friendship and shared interests, saying it continues to provide a strong foundation for expanding trade, investment and cooperation across key development sectors.
He also stressed the need for standards institutions within the East African Community (EAC) to work more closely together to ease cross-border trade and improve the competitiveness of products in the regional market.
The President said the completion of the Shumba Port in Pemba, together with the growing number of direct flights between Zanzibar and Kenya, would enhance the movement of people and goods, boost trade, support tourism growth and attract more investment.
He further invited Kenyan private sector investors to explore opportunities in Zanzibar, particularly in tourism, the blue economy, seaweed farming and other strategic sectors that support economic growth and job creation.
For her part, Ambassador Karemu pledged to strengthen the existing partnership between Kenya and Tanzania, with particular focus on Zanzibar, by promoting greater trade, investment and development cooperation for the mutual benefit of citizens in both countries.
