Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) will report to camp on July 20 as the club begins preparations for the 2026/27 NBC Premier League season, with the champions looking to assemble a competitive squad capable of maintaining their dominance.
The club’s first-team squad will conduct its pre-season training at Avic Town in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam, ahead of the new league campaign scheduled to commence on August 14.
Unlike previous seasons when Yanga travelled abroad for pre-season camps, the club has opted to conduct preparations locally due to the short period remaining before the start of official competitions.
Yanga Head of Information and Communication, Ally Kamwe, said players will undergo comprehensive medical assessments immediately after reporting to camp before beginning full-scale training sessions under the guidance of the technical bench.
“According to the technical team’s plan, players will first undergo health checks before officially entering camp. We are focused on ensuring the team gets the best possible preparations ahead of the new season,” Kamwe said.
He said the club has lined up a number of activities, including the unveiling of the technical bench and new players who will form part of the squad for the upcoming campaign.
Kamwe emphasised that discipline and focus will be key during the training camp, with strict measures put in place to ensure players remain committed to the preparation programme.
“We need top-level preparations to build a strong squad. Once players report to camp, there will be controlled access and movement, supported by adequate security, to ensure everything goes according to plan,” he said.
The Yanga official also announced that the club’s General Assembly meeting will be held on August 2, with preparations for the club’s general elections expected to be among the major issues on the agenda.
Meanwhile, the club is still working to identify a venue for its popular Wiki ya Mwananchi festival after the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium was closed for renovation works.
Kamwe said the leadership is assessing alternative venues and expects to make a final decision by July 20 to allow supporters and stakeholders to plan accordingly.
The preparations come as Yanga aims to strengthen its squad ahead of another demanding season, with domestic league success and continental ambitions remaining key priorities for the club.
