Officials from the Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) on July 2, 2026, continued with their outreach programme at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba), directly engaging entrepreneurs with practical education on measurement standards and proper product packaging.

During the fifth day of the exhibition, WMA experts visited different business stalls and interacted closely with small-scale entrepreneurs, offering hands-on guidance on accurate measurements, correct labeling of products, and compliance with national and international packaging requirements.

The exercise was led by WMA Ilala District Weights Manager, Mr. Muhono Nashon, who emphasized that proper measurement and clear product information are key elements in building consumer trust and enabling local products to compete in wider markets.

Entrepreneurs were also guided on how to properly display measurement details on packaging, ensuring that their products meet required legal standards and are acceptable in both local and export markets. Officials further explained key compliance areas that traders must observe to avoid misleading consumers and to maintain fair trade practices.

Speaking on the initiative, WMA Communications Manager, Ms. Veronica Simba, said the outreach approach was introduced to ensure that more exhibitors benefit from WMA services during the trade fair without necessarily leaving their business stalls.

She noted that the strategy is part of efforts to improve accessibility of government services and strengthen engagement with traders during major exhibitions such as Sabasaba.

Ms. Simba further explained that the exercise also responds to directives from the Minister for Industry and Trade, Judith Kapinga, who instructed public institutions participating in the fair to actively move around and provide services directly to entrepreneurs instead of waiting for them at exhibition pavilions.

Entrepreneurs who received the service welcomed the initiative, saying it was practical and time-saving, as it allowed them to continue managing their stalls while still receiving important regulatory education.

Many said the engagement helped them better understand packaging and measurement requirements, which are often challenging for small businesses aiming to expand into larger markets.

The Weights and Measures Agency Weights and Measures Agency said the outreach is part of its ongoing mandate to educate traders and manufacturers on measurement standards, with the goal of promoting fair trade, protecting consumers, and supporting business growth across the country.
