The Tanzania Film Board has praised Chamwino Arts Centre (CAC) for its contribution to promoting the country’s creative industry through the annual Cigogo Music Festival, saying the event provides an important platform for nurturing talent and connecting artists across different creative fields.
Speaking to journalists at Chamwino Arts Centre ahead of the official opening of the 17th Cigogo Music Festival scheduled for July 25, 2026, Tanzania Film Board Development Officer Ally Makata said the festival reflects the growing relationship between music and the film sector.
Makata explained that while the Board is responsible for the film industry, its participation in a music festival is important because music plays a key role in filmmaking by strengthening storytelling, creating emotions and improving audience experiences.
“Many people ask why the Tanzania Film Board participates in a music festival. The reason is that music is an important part of film production, especially through soundtracks and other elements that support storytelling,” he said.
He said the festival has created a valuable opportunity for the Board to engage with various creative professionals, including actors, directors, producers, camera operators and musicians, many of whom possess multiple talents that need to be identified and developed.
Makata said the Tanzania Film Board is using the platform to educate artists about available government opportunities while encouraging film practitioners to register with the Board to gain official recognition and access professional support.
“We are here to inform stakeholders about opportunities available through the Tanzania Film Board and encourage creative professionals to register so they can be recognised and continue developing their careers,” he said.
He commended Chamwino Arts Centre for organising an event that brings together artists and audiences from different parts of the country, saying such initiatives contribute to strengthening Tanzania’s creative economy.
“No form of art can exist without music. We congratulate Chamwino Arts Centre for bringing Tanzanians together through the arts and creating a platform that can inspire similar initiatives,” Makata said.
The 17th Cigogo Music Festival is set to officially open on July 25, 2026, with Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule expected to serve as the guest of honour.
