TANESCO announces planned outages as work advances on 400kV Chalinze-Dodoma power line

Dodoma. The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has announced planned power outages in parts of the Morogoro and Tanga regions from July 9 to July 14, 2026, to allow construction work on the 400-kilovolt Chalinze-Dodoma electricity transmission line to proceed safely.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, TANESCO said electricity supply would be suspended daily between 1:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon while contractors carry out conductor stringing works, a key stage in the construction of the high-voltage transmission project.

The utility said the temporary shutdown is necessary to ensure the safe execution of works on an existing 33kV power line in the Morogoro area, where construction activities intersect with the new transmission corridor, and to keep the Chalinze-Dodoma project on schedule.

Areas expected to be affected include the Mkulazi feeder, serving Mkulazi Factory, and the Turiani feeder, covering parts of Mvomero, Kilosa, Kilindi and Gairo districts. The affected locations include government offices, communities, agricultural areas and several villages across the four districts.

Among the affected areas are Wami Sokoine, Mvomero District headquarters, Mvomero District Council offices, Dakawa, Mvomero, Kinda, Maskati, Hembeti, Mkindo, Sungaji, Mhonda, Kweuma, Diongoya, Mtibwa, Kanga, Mziha, Pemba, Kibati and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station in Mvomero District. Other affected areas include Dumila, Kitete, Ukaguru, Mfuru, Madudu, Mabana, Mateteni, Mbigiri and villages in Magole Division in Kilosa District, as well as selected villages in Kilindi and Gairo districts.

TANESCO apologised for the inconvenience and urged the public not to touch or approach fallen or low-hanging electricity lines, advising customers to report such incidents through its emergency hotline, 180.
