The Minister of Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), joined national leaders and stakeholders in Dar es Salaam for the Presidential Awards for Best Taxpayers and the 30th anniversary of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), held at Mlimani City Hall.

The event was officiated by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and brought together government officials, private sector representatives, tax experts, and development partners to celebrate three decades of TRA’s contribution to national development through improved revenue collection.

The ceremony recognized outstanding taxpayers for their strong compliance and vital role in supporting government efforts to raise domestic revenue.

Their contribution continues to help finance key development priorities such as infrastructure, health, education, and other public services that directly benefit citizens.

Marking 30 years since its establishment, TRA highlighted major reforms that have transformed tax administration in Tanzania.

These include improvements in service delivery, expansion of the tax base, and strengthened systems that have made it easier for citizens and businesses to meet their tax obligations.

A major focus of the celebration was the growing use of digital systems in tax collection. Technology has simplified procedures, reduced delays, and improved transparency, making it more convenient for taxpayers while also increasing government revenue collection efficiency.

Stakeholders at the event noted that these reforms have helped build trust between taxpayers and the government, encouraging voluntary compliance and creating a more supportive environment for business growth.

Speaking during the event, leaders commended TRA for its commitment to modernizing its operations and ensuring that tax collection processes are more efficient, fair, and accessible to the public.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to appreciate taxpayers who have consistently demonstrated integrity and responsibility in fulfilling their tax obligations.

Their contribution was described as a key pillar in strengthening Tanzania’s economic stability and supporting ongoing development projects across the country.

Over the past 30 years, TRA has played a central role in mobilizing domestic revenue, which remains essential for reducing dependency on external funding and ensuring sustainable national development.

Ambassador Omar’s participation reflected the government’s continued commitment to strengthening fiscal discipline, expanding the revenue base, and recognizing the important partnership between taxpayers and the state in building a stronger economy for all citizens.
