The starting whistle for the National Athletics Championships is expected to be blown tomorrow at the Filbert Bayi Secondary School Sports Complex, where athletes from different regions of mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar will compete over two days, on July 3 and 4.
The championships are organised under the national athletics governing body, Athletics Tanzania, and are expected to attract strong participation and high-level competition as athletes aim to prove their form on the national stage.
Speaking on the final preparations, the Chairperson of the Technical Committee of Athletics Tanzania, Alfredo Shahanga, said all arrangements have been completed and the venue is fully prepared to host the event.
Shahanga confirmed that more than 75 percent of regions from both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar have already confirmed participation, describing the turnout as a positive sign for a highly competitive championship.
He noted that the return of the championships this year has added extra motivation for athletes, especially after the event was not held last year.
“We expect strong competition because the championships were not held last year. Every athlete will be eager to perform well and showcase their ability,” said Shahanga.
He added that the championships are internationally recognized and play a key role in identifying emerging talent and selecting athletes who will represent Tanzania in upcoming international competitions.
The event also provides an important platform for coaches and selectors to assess athletes’ fitness levels, performance consistency, and readiness for regional and global events.
Athletes will compete across a wide range of track and field disciplines, including sprints, middle-distance, long-distance races, and field events, with intense competition expected in several categories.
With final preparations complete and teams already arriving at the venue, attention now turns to Pwani, where Tanzania’s top athletics talent will battle for national glory over the next two days.
