Former Arusha Member of Parliament and retired Colonel Abdulrahman Kinana has called on Tanzanians to honour their tax obligations, saying domestic revenue remains critical to financing development and strengthening the country's economic self-reliance.
Speaking during a visit to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Ilala Tax Region offices on Friday, Kinana said tax payment is a civic responsibility that enables the government to deliver essential public services and invest in the country's socio-economic development.
During the visit, he held talks with the Ilala Tax Region Manager, Musibu Shabani, on the importance of strengthening tax compliance and public awareness.
Kinana said voluntary tax compliance by individuals and businesses is key to sustaining government revenue, which supports investment in sectors such as health, education, infrastructure and other public services.
He also praised the TRA for expanding taxpayer education programmes, describing public awareness as an effective tool for improving voluntary compliance.
He urged the authority to further intensify tax education campaigns to help more citizens and businesses understand their obligations and encourage a stronger culture of voluntary tax payment across the country.
