Minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology Angela Kairuki has concluded a two-day inspection tour of government-funded development projects in Kongwa District, underscoring the need for quality implementation to improve healthcare, education and digital connectivity.
Speaking after touring the projects on July 24, Kairuki said the visit was aimed at assessing whether public investments are delivering value for money and improving the quality of services available to citizens.
She was accompanied by Kongwa District Commissioner Saimoni Mayeka, District Executive Director Omary Nkuro, Special Seats Member of Parliament Jesca Mbogo and other government officials.
Kairuki also commended the Dodoma Regional administration, led by Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule, for overseeing the implementation of projects that are improving public services across the region.
In the health sector, the minister praised the construction of 11 health centres in Kongwa, saying they had been completed within a short period and were already providing essential medical services.
She laid the foundation stone for the Kongwa Health Centre, which is expected to serve more than 28,000 residents and ease pressure on existing healthcare facilities.
Kairuki directed district health authorities to ensure approved medical equipment is delivered on schedule so the facilities can operate at full capacity.
She also encouraged residents to enrol in the Universal Health Insurance Scheme to improve access to healthcare.
On education, the minister said the government continues to invest heavily in free education, allocating TSh 1.1 billion for primary education and TSh 1.5 billion for secondary education programmes in the district.
She said Kongwa has benefited from the construction of 26 schools, 640 classrooms, 50 science laboratories and 176 teachers' houses, significantly improving the learning environment.
Kairuki also pledged to follow up on the supply of 42 computers requested for two remaining schools, saying expanding access to digital learning remains a government priority.
"We want every child to have access to quality education. The government is investing in teachers, infrastructure and technology to improve learning outcomes," she said.
The minister also commended Water Minister Juma Aweso for overseeing the drilling of 19 boreholes across Kongwa to improve access to clean and safe water.
She said improved water supply would support households, agriculture and livestock production, while complementary investments in agricultural extension services, fertiliser access, veterinary medicines and demonstration farms are expected to boost productivity.
Kairuki said the government has also expanded telecommunications infrastructure across the district, improving mobile and internet connectivity while extending electricity access to all wards.
According to her, the investments will support digital services, create business opportunities and accelerate the adoption of technology in education and other productive sectors.
District Commissioner Saimoni Mayeka said the government has invested TSh 38.6 billion in Kongwa to implement projects in education, healthcare, water and infrastructure.
He urged local leaders to continue promoting the use of technology while ensuring that public services are delivered efficiently.
During the visit, Kairuki also acknowledged the contribution of former Speaker of Parliament Job Ndugai to Kongwa's development over the past two decades and commended parents who provide school meals for pupils, saying the initiative contributes to better learning outcomes.
She said sustained collaboration between the government and communities would be key to improving healthcare, education and digital transformation in the district.
