The Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) has launched a recruitment campaign for the 2026/27 academic year, using the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba) to encourage prospective students to pursue careers in Tanzania's growing maritime sector.
Speaking at the exhibition, Assistant Lecturer Wilfrida Wenceslaus Ngallu said the institute was providing information on its maritime programmes while receiving applications for certificate, diploma, bachelor's, master's and certificate of competency
She said the first admission window for certificate, diploma, master's and certificate of competency would close on July 11, while applications for bachelor's degree programmes are expected to open on July 15.
Ngallu said DMI offers nationally and internationally accredited maritime education and training, preparing graduates for careers across the maritime industry.
She urged more female students to consider maritime professions, saying women remain underrepresented despite growing opportunities in the sector.
"As a marine engineer myself, I want more young women to understand that they can succeed in maritime careers. We have seen female students perform very well in these programmes," she said.
The institute said applicants for certificate programmes must have at least four D grades in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).
Diploma applicants must possess either at least E or S passes in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or a relevant certificate qualification.
Candidates seeking admission to bachelor's degree programmes must have at least two principal passes at D grade in the ACSEE or a relevant diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Applicants for master's degree programmes must hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 2.7.
DMI, is encouraging prospective students to submit applications through its online admissions system as it seeks to strengthen Tanzania's maritime workforce.
