Minister for Defence and National Service Rhimo Nyansaho has called on residents of Serengeti District and the wider Mara Region to take an active role in safeguarding peace and national security, stressing that protecting the country is a collective responsibility that transcends political affiliation, religion and ethnicity.

Speaking on Thursday, July 2, during Prime Minister Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba's visit to Serengeti District, Nyansaho said lasting peace is fundamental to Tanzania's stability and development, urging citizens to remain united in preserving the country's security.

Welcoming the Prime Minister, Nyansaho described Serengeti as a symbol of peace and unity, noting that as his home district it should set an example in promoting social cohesion and harmony.

"Prime Minister, welcome home in a very special way. It is here at home that the foundation of peace should begin," he said.

Nyansaho said President Samia Suluhu Hassan's decision, in her capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to appoint him as Minister for Defence and National Service was both an honour and a responsibility, particularly for the people of Serengeti.

"The Commander-in-Chief and President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, entrusted me, a son of Serengeti, with the responsibility of leading the Ministry of Defence and National Service. That trust should inspire all of us in Serengeti to become champions of peace and national unity," he said.

He emphasised that national security should never be viewed through political, religious or ethnic lenses, saying every Tanzanian has a duty to contribute to maintaining peace and stability.

"National security belongs to no political party, religion or ethnic group. It is the responsibility of every Tanzanian, every parent and every citizen to protect the peace and security of our country, regardless of political or religious differences," Nyansaho said.

He also urged residents of Serengeti, the Special Zone and the wider Mara Region to serve as ambassadors of peace by promoting unity, social cohesion and stability, arguing that sustained peace remains the cornerstone of economic growth and national development.
