Tanzanian swimmer Collins Saliboko has vowed to bounce back stronger at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, saying his campaign is still alive despite facing intense competition in the men's 100-metre butterfly event.
Speaking after the race, Saliboko described the contest as highly competitive but remained upbeat about his chances in the events ahead, insisting he is focused on delivering improved performances for Tanzania.
The swimmer said he will use a one-day break to recover and fine-tune his preparations before returning to the pool on July 27 for the men's 100-metre freestyle.
"The competition has been tough, but the Games are not over yet. I will come back with renewed determination and give everything I have to represent Tanzania well," he said.
Saliboko's confidence is reinforced by a significant personal achievement earlier in the competition, where he set a new personal best in the men's 50-metre backstroke.
He clocked 28.31 seconds, shaving more than half a second off his previous best of 28.88 seconds, underlining his steady progress on the international stage.
The new mark reflects the swimmer's continued development despite competing against some of the Commonwealth's strongest athletes, providing encouragement as he prepares for the remaining races in his Games campaign.
