Youth urged to safeguard peace and steer clear of unrest

Young people in Tanzania have been urged to safeguard national peace and avoid involvement in activities that could trigger unrest or violate the law, with emphasis placed on the fact that stability remains the foundation of economic growth and social development.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on Monday, June 29, 2026, some residents said every Tanzanian has a responsibility to ensure the country’s peace is preserved, stressing the need for cooperation between citizens and the government in maintaining stability.

Dar es Salaam resident Vin Alex said Tanzania has long been recognised as a peaceful nation, adding that it is the duty of all citizens to protect that reputation.

“Tanzania is a peaceful country. We should not engage in unrest or acts that undermine peace. The government should also strengthen efforts to ensure stability by addressing those who break the law. As citizens, we are ready to work with the government in safeguarding peace,” he said.

He added that young people must remain cautious against any influence that could lead them into unlawful activities, stressing that the responsibility of protecting peace lies with all Tanzanians regardless of age or status.

Another resident, Boniface Makomba, a person with disability based in Dar es Salaam, said protests or unrest can significantly disrupt economic and social activities.

“Young people should avoid being swept into crowds. Demonstrations can disrupt peace and undermine our economy and development,” he said.

The remarks come at a time when some citizens still recall incidents that occurred during the General Election held on October 29, 2025, when parts of the country witnessed unrest and damage to infrastructure, alongside reported loss of life and social disruption.

The residents called for continued dialogue, respect for the rule of law, and active participation in peaceful development activities, stressing that national unity remains central to sustainable development.
