Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) has officially launched the process of electing its next leadership team, with the collection and submission of nomination forms for various positions set to begin on June 25 and run through June 29, 2026.
The club’s General Election is scheduled for August 2, when members will choose leaders who will guide the Tanzanian football giants for the next four years.
Announcing the election roadmap in Dar es Salaam on June 24, Yanga Election Committee Chairman, Advocate Malangwe Mchungahela, said nomination forms for the positions of President and Vice President will cost Sh200,000, while candidates seeking committee member positions will pay Sh100,000.
The election calendar outlines a rigorous vetting process aimed at ensuring transparency and credibility. Preliminary screening of candidates will take place from June 30 to July 1, followed by the publication of the provisional list of candidates on July 2.
Members will have an opportunity to lodge objections on July 3, while interviews for aspiring candidates are scheduled between July 6 and July 8.
“The results of the interviews will be announced from July 9 to July 10. The period between July 11 and July 13 has been reserved for handling correction-related matters, while appeals to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Appeals Committee will be received from July 14 to July 16,” said Mchungahela.
He added that appeals will be heard between July 17 and July 21, with final decisions expected on July 22 and July 23. The final list of candidates will then be prepared and published between July 24 and July 27.
According to the timetable, the names of approved candidates will be officially unveiled on July 28 and July 29, clearing the way for campaign activities from July 30 to August 1 ahead of polling day.
Mchungahela said the election schedule was designed to provide members with ample opportunity to participate in the democratic process and elect leaders capable of steering the club through its next chapter.
Beyond the election preparations, he noted that Yanga continues to expand its membership base through the registration of members and establishment of new branches across the country.
While several branches have already submitted their membership lists, others are still completing the exercise.
He urged branches that have yet to finalize the process to do so before July 7 to ensure all eligible members are included in the voters’ register and can participate fully in the election.
The upcoming polls are expected to draw considerable attention from Yanga’s vast membership and football stakeholders, with the outcome set to shape the future direction of one of East Africa’s most successful and influential football clubs.
