Vunjo MP launches fish farming and dairy training to boost youth employment

Member of Parliament for Vunjo Constituency, Enock Koola, has launched a new initiative aimed at equipping residents with practical skills in dairy cattle farming and fish farming as part of efforts to promote self-employment and reduce unemployment in the area.

The training program is scheduled to take place on June 13 at the School for the Deaf Hall in Njia Panda Ward, where selected residents, especially youth representatives from each ward, will be trained on modern and profitable livestock and aquaculture practices.

According to the initiative, participants will gain hands-on knowledge designed to help them establish income-generating activities in their communities.

The program is expected to play a key role in improving household incomes and strengthening local economic resilience through agriculture-based entrepreneurship.

MP Koola said the initiative is part of his broader development agenda focused on empowering residents with skills that can translate directly into employment and business opportunities, particularly for young people who face challenges in accessing formal jobs.

He added that the program builds on previous interventions implemented in the constituency, including efforts to revive coffee farming through the distribution of improved coffee seedlings to farmers in coffee-growing areas.

Under related empowerment programs, 60 young people benefited from an improved avocado seedling distribution scheme, while 80 youths were trained in beekeeping to support diversification of income sources.

In the current phase, about 80 youths are expected to benefit from training in fish farming and dairy cattle production.

Each ward has selected representatives who will later share the knowledge gained with other residents, expanding the impact of the program across the constituency.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity and promote youth participation in sustainable economic activities within Vunjo Constituency.
