DODOMA, Tanzania — The Tanzanian government has called for a comprehensive review of Public Service Week celebrations and greater participation by local government authorities, saying the annual event has become an important platform for accountability and citizen engagement.
Closing the 2026 Public Service Week on behalf of Chief Secretary Ambassador Dr. Moses Kusiluka, Prof. Riziki Shemdoe instructed the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance to conduct an assessment covering the past three years of the celebrations.
He said the evaluation should measure the impact of the event and help strengthen future editions.
Prof. Shemdoe also directed government employers to allocate sufficient resources for participation in future exhibitions and ensure public institutions continue bringing services closer to citizens.
He praised the strong turnout by local government representatives, citing a district council from Arusha where village executive officers attended the exhibition to learn from other institutions and improve service delivery in their communities.
“The people who implement many government activities are found at village, street and ward levels. Their participation helps them gain experience and apply lessons learned when they return to their areas,” he said.
The official noted that the 2026 event attracted one of the largest numbers of institutions, public servants, entrepreneurs and citizens since the celebrations began more than two decades ago.
He said the exhibitions had provided citizens with direct access to government services, information and complaint-handling mechanisms while also creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to showcase products and services.
Prof. Shemdoe commended public servants for their contribution to national development and urged them to continue observing laws, regulations and professional standards while serving citizens.
The event concluded with awards for institutions recognised for innovation, service delivery and public engagement during the week-long exhibition in Dodoma.
