TRC introduces additional EMU train on Dodoma–Dar es Salaam route

The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has introduced an additional Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train between Dodoma and Dar es Salaam to accommodate growing passenger demand on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) network.

According to a public notice issued on June 25, the special service will operate on Friday, June 26, 2026, with the train scheduled to depart Dodoma at 1:10 a.m. for Dar es Salaam.

The move comes as the state-owned railway operator continues to expand capacity on one of the country's busiest passenger corridors, where demand for the modern electric train service has continued to increase.

TRC urged travellers planning to use the service to purchase their tickets early through the corporation's official ticketing system to avoid delays and congestion associated with last-minute bookings.

"The Tanzania Railways Corporation wishes to inform the public that it has added a special Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train on Friday, June 26, 2026, between Dodoma and Dar es Salaam," the notice reads.

The corporation also thanked passengers for their continued confidence in its rail services, reaffirming its commitment to improving travel convenience and service reliability.

The announcement was signed by Fredy Mwanjala, Head of TRC's Public Relations Unit.

The SGR electric train has become a key mode of transport linking Tanzania's political capital, Dodoma, with the commercial hub of Dar es Salaam, offering shorter travel times and improved passenger comfort.

The introduction of additional services is expected to ease pressure during peak travel periods while supporting the government's broader efforts to strengthen public transport infrastructure.
