TRC adds extra SGR train to ease Dodoma–Dar demand

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has introduced an additional passenger train service on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line between Dodoma and Dar es Salaam following a rise in travel demand along the busy corridor.

In a public notice issued in Dar es Salaam on June 12, 2026, TRC confirmed that the extra service will operate on Friday, June 12, 2026, to help reduce congestion and improve passenger movement between the two major cities.

According to the statement, the train will depart from Dodoma at 1:00 a.m. heading to Dar es Salaam. The decision comes after an increase in passengers using the electric multiple unit (EMU) trains, which have become a popular and efficient mode of transport on the route.

TRC said the additional trip is part of ongoing efforts to provide safe, reliable and efficient railway services while responding to growing public demand.

The corporation noted that the move will improve travel comfort and ease pressure on existing scheduled services.

Passengers have been urged to purchase tickets in advance through the official booking system to avoid last-minute inconvenience, as demand for SGR services continues to remain high.

The statement was issued by the TRC Public Relations Unit and signed by Head of Communications Fredy Mwanjala.

The SGR passenger service continues to play a key role in improving transport connectivity between Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, supporting both economic and social activities across the country.
