DODOMA, Tanzania — Tanzania's Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism emerged as the overall winner in a recognition of innovation and service delivery during the 2026 Public Service Week celebrations held in Dodoma.
The awards were presented during the closing ceremony of the national exhibition, where government institutions were assessed on the quality of services offered to citizens, the presentation and organisation of their exhibition stands, customer care and the level of innovation demonstrated in improving public service delivery.
Organisers said institutions were evaluated on the overall appearance of their stands, accessibility of services, customer engagement and the effectiveness with which visitors were attended to throughout the exhibition.
A second key criterion focused on innovation, including the use of new approaches, technologies and service delivery models aimed at improving the public's experience and access to government services.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism secured first place after being cited on its strong display of innovation and the broad participation of institutions operating under the ministry during the exhibition, not mentioned the provision of a wild meat barberque that was enjoyed by visitors.
The Meru District Council was awarded second place in recognition of its innovative approaches to service delivery and its active engagement with visitors during the event, including local leaders presence in the exhibition.
The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) took third place for its performance and contribution to showcasing skills development opportunities and public services, involved a talented person with disability.
The awards formed part of the closing activities of the 2026 Public Service Week celebrations, which brought together government institutions from across the country to showcase services, interact directly with citizens and promote accountability in public administration.
The annual event is intended to strengthen links between public institutions and citizens while encouraging innovation, transparency and improved service delivery across government agencies.
