The countdown to the highly anticipated Dar Boxing Derby has intensified after local boxing rivals Juma Tondola and Hamza Mengo exchanged verbal jabs ahead of their showdown scheduled for July 24, 2026, in Dar es Salaam.
The clash, which has already generated considerable excitement among boxing enthusiasts, is expected to be one of the headline attractions of the event as both fighters seek to establish dominance in one of Dar es Salaam’s most talked-about boxing rivalries.
Speaking ahead of the bout, Tondola, who represents Mbezi Mazulu, expressed confidence in his ability to overcome his opponent, describing himself as one of the leading fighters in his weight division.
The boxer said he has completed a rigorous training programme and is fully focused on delivering a strong performance when the two step into the ring.
“I have prepared well and I am ready for the challenge. My fans should expect a great fight. I encourage my opponent to prepare properly so that together we can give the fans an exciting contest. Whether it ends in a knockout or not is in God's hands,” said Tondola.
His trainer, Amos Nkondo Amoma, backed his fighter's chances, saying Tondola has undergone intensive preparations and possesses the qualities needed to emerge victorious.
“We respect Mengo because he is a good boxer, but we believe Tondola has what it takes to win this fight. The preparations have gone according to plan and we are confident he will deliver,” Amoma said.
Not to be outdone, Mengo responded with equal confidence, insisting that pre-fight statements would count for little once the opening bell rings.
The Tabata Makuburi-based boxer said his preparations have reached an advanced stage under the guidance of coach Emmanuel and that he is ready to prove himself inside the ring.
“I want Tondola to be ready because he will face a very different kind of boxer. This will not be an easy fight for him. People can talk as much as they want before the fight, but in the end it is our fists that will speak,” Mengo said.
The exchange has added further intrigue to a contest that is already attracting significant attention from boxing fans across the city and beyond.
With both fighters entering the bout full of confidence and determined to make a statement, the Dar Boxing Derby is shaping up to deliver an explosive encounter.
Supporters on both sides will be eager to see whether Tondola's confidence translates into victory or whether Mengo can silence his rival and claim the bragging rights when they finally meet in the ring on July 24.
