Tanzania and Australia have reaffirmed their strong partnership in the mining sector and broader development cooperation, with both sides pledging to deepen collaboration that supports economic growth and benefits citizens.
The commitment was made in Dodoma during a farewell meeting between the Deputy Minister for Minerals, Dkt. Steven Kiruswa, and the outgoing Australian Ambassador to Tanzania, Jenny Da Rin.
The discussions highlighted long-standing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in mining development, skills training, technology transfer, and investment promotion.
Dkt. Kiruswa praised Australia for its continued support to Tanzania’s development agenda, noting that the partnership has contributed significantly to improving the mining sector and expanding economic opportunities for Tanzanians.
He said the government remains committed to ensuring that citizens directly benefit from mineral resources through inclusive participation, improved regulation, and increased value addition within the country.
He further emphasized that Tanzania will continue to work closely with Australia in strengthening mineral exploration, attracting responsible investment, and building technical capacity for Tanzanians working in the mining sector.
According to him, the mining sector is growing rapidly and requires modern technology, strong research systems, and skilled professionals to maximize its contribution to national development.
On her part, Jenny Da Rin expressed appreciation to the Government of Tanzania for the cooperation and support she received during her tenure.
She said Australia values its partnership with Tanzania and remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development and economic growth.
The ambassador encouraged Tanzanians to take advantage of scholarships, training programs, and professional development opportunities offered by Australia, saying such initiatives are designed to build skills that directly support national development priorities, including the mining sector.
She also encouraged continued efforts to improve the investment climate to attract more Australian companies and enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides agreed that strengthening education, skills development, and investment cooperation will remain central in ensuring that the partnership delivers tangible benefits to citizens in both countries, especially in job creation and economic empowerment.
