President Samia Suluhu Hassan has arrived in Moscow for a historic State Visit aimed at strengthening Tanzania's diplomatic relations with Russia while advancing investment, trade and human capital development partnerships critical to the country's long-term economic transformation.

The President landed at Vnukovo International Airport on Tuesday evening and was accorded full state honours, including a guard of honour and the playing of the national anthems of Tanzania and Russia. She was received by Russia's Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov.

The visit marks a significant milestone in Tanzania-Russia relations, becoming only the second State Visit by a Tanzanian Head of State to Russia since the establishment of ties between the two countries. The first was undertaken by Tanzania's founding President, Julius Nyerere, during the 1960s.

President Samia's trip underscores Tanzania's growing emphasis on economic diplomacy, with the government seeking to translate longstanding political goodwill into tangible economic opportunities through increased investment flows, technology transfer and strategic partnerships.

A central objective of the visit is to position Tanzania as a competitive investment destination and attract greater Russian participation in key sectors of the economy.

The President is expected to take part in a major international investment forum in St. Petersburg, where she will engage with investors, business leaders and policymakers from across the world.

The visit is also expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in education, science, technology and skills development as Tanzania seeks to build the human capital required to drive the implementation of the country's Development Vision 2050.

Beyond economic matters, the visit is intended to reinforce diplomatic, political and historical ties between the two nations, whose relationship dates back to the early years of Tanzania's independence.

On Wednesday, President Samia is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before proceeding to the Kremlin for official talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders are expected to discuss avenues for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, education, agriculture and technology, among other strategic areas, as Tanzania continues to diversify its international partnerships in pursuit of sustainable economic growth.

The Moscow visit forms part of President Samia's broader strategy of leveraging international engagements to attract investment, strengthen development cooperation and create new opportunities for Tanzania's economy in an increasingly competitive global environment.
