Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba on Monday, June 1, 2026, joined mourners at the funeral service of Shelui Ward Councillor, Agnes Nasania, held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) Shelui Parish in Iramba District, Singida Region.
Speaking during the service, Dr. Nchemba described the late councillor as a courageous, honest and principled leader who remained committed to protecting the interests of the people of Shelui Ward.
“Agnes was a leader who stood firmly for what she believed was right for the benefit of the people. She had the courage to speak the truth and champion development initiatives without being swayed,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that Nasania’s contribution to the development of Shelui Ward would be remembered by residents and leaders who had worked closely with her throughout her public service career.
Dr. Nchemba also pledged continued support to the late councillor’s family, particularly her children, to ensure they are able to continue their education and pursue their aspirations.
He urged residents of Shelui to maintain unity and solidarity during the mourning period and avoid divisions that could undermine development efforts in the area.
“We should honour our departed colleague by preserving the unity and harmony she helped build during her lifetime. This is not a time for conflict or division, but a time to stand together,” he said.
Earlier, the Bishop of the ELCT Central Diocese (Singida), Dr. Syprian Hilinti, who led the funeral service, described Nasania as a devoted public servant who dedicated her life to serving the church, the community and the nation.
“Agnes demonstrated that it is possible to be a politician while remaining a servant of the people, a person of faith and someone committed to helping others. She was peaceful, humble and lived a life of service,” Bishop Hilinti said.
The bishop also called on Tanzanians to continue promoting unity, mutual respect and social cohesion regardless of religious beliefs, ethnic backgrounds or political affiliations.
He emphasized that true leadership is measured by one’s ability to serve people rather than by personal identity or status.
Agnes Nasania passed away on May 30, 2026, while serving as Councillor for Shelui Ward in the Iramba District Council.
Her death has been widely mourned by residents, local leaders and members of the church community, who have remembered her for her dedication to public service and community development.
