A Member of the National Executive Council (MNEC) of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Ndele Mwaselela, has called on religious leaders and political actors across the country to intensify efforts in promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion, while also encouraging prayers for the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, to sustain stability and development.
Mwaselela made the remarks on June 16, 2026, in Ilima Ward, Rungwe District in Mbeya Region, during a funeral service for the aunt of Mbeya Urban Member of Parliament and CCM Regional Chairperson, Patrick Mwalunenge.
He delivered CCM’s condolences and message of solidarity at the gathering attended by mourners and leaders from different sectors.
He said CCM continues to uphold unity, peace, and love as central pillars of national progress, noting that Tanzania’s development achievements are strongly anchored in stability and mutual respect among citizens.
Mwaselela emphasized that the peaceful environment witnessed across the country is a key foundation for social and economic activities, adding that citizens are able to travel, trade, and engage in productive work because of the prevailing stability.
He urged religious leaders and political leaders to use their platforms responsibly by promoting messages that strengthen national unity rather than division.
He said such leaders play a critical role in shaping public understanding and must therefore act as custodians of peace at all times.
According to him, development activities such as agriculture, business, and community development depend entirely on peace and cooperation among citizens.
He stressed that without stability, it would be difficult for any meaningful progress to take place at both local and national levels.
Mwaselela also cautioned against any form of incitement or behavior that could undermine harmony, insisting that political differences should never be allowed to threaten national unity.
He called on all citizens to recognize that peace is a shared responsibility that must be protected collectively.
The funeral ceremony brought together leaders and citizens from different political backgrounds, including members of the opposition party CHADEMA, who joined mourners in demonstrating unity and respect during the occasion.
Speaking on behalf of attendees, Tumaini Atupakusye said peace remains one of Tanzania’s most important national assets, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to protect unity and strengthen cooperation for the benefit of present and future generations.
He added that tolerance, respect, and understanding among citizens are essential for sustaining peace and ensuring inclusive development across all sectors of society.
