Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has strengthened its standing as Tanzania's leading referral healthcare institution after winning the Outstanding Achievement Award in the Health and Pharmaceutical Sector at the Zanzibar Business and Innovation Awards 2026.

The award was presented during a ceremony held in Zanzibar on the night of June 27, recognising the hospital's contribution to improving healthcare services, expanding specialised treatment and driving innovation in the country's health sector.

Receiving the award, MNH Executive Director, Dr. Delilah Kimambo, described the recognition as a tribute to healthcare professionals across Tanzania whose commitment, professionalism and patriotism continue to improve the lives of patients.

"This award is an honour for all health workers who dedicate themselves every day to providing quality services with integrity and commitment," she said.

Dr. Kimambo attributed the achievement to the strong collaboration between the hospital's medical specialists, management and stakeholders, whose continued support has enabled Muhimbili to strengthen the quality of care and expand access to specialised and super-specialised medical services.

She said the hospital remains committed to investing in advanced healthcare to ensure Tanzanians receive safe, high-quality treatment that meets international standards while reducing the need for patients to seek specialised care abroad.

Muhimbili emerged victorious after competing against five other institutions, highlighting its growing recognition for excellence in healthcare delivery and its continued efforts to modernise medical services and improve patient outcomes.

The Zanzibar Business and Innovation Awards are held as part of the Zanzibar Trade and Investment Exhibition and recognise institutions, companies and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to economic development through innovation, investment and excellence in service delivery.

The awards bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to promote innovation, competitiveness and sustainable economic growth, while celebrating organisations that continue to raise standards in their respective industries.
