Government warns public institutions over delays in digital reforms

The Tanzanian government has directed authorities to identify public institutions that fail to integrate into the national digital human resources management system by the end of June, as it accelerates efforts to modernise public service delivery.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Public Service Week in Dodoma on behalf of Chief Secretary Ambassador Dr. Moses Kusiluka, senior government official Prof. Riziki Shemdoe said ministries and public institutions must fully implement the government’s digital workforce management platform.

He said a directive issued by the Chief Secretary on January 29 required all institutions under government ministries to join the system by June 30, 2026, and instructed the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance to submit a report on agencies that fail to comply.

The move is part of broader reforms aimed at digitising key public service functions, including promotions, transfers, performance management and employee records, while improving transparency and efficiency across government institutions.

Prof. Shemdoe said public servants should embrace digital systems to provide faster and more reliable services to citizens, adding that the government would continue investing in technology to strengthen service delivery.

He said the administration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan remains committed to expanding digital government infrastructure in line with the country's long-term development goals.

During the event, Prof. Shemdoe said he had visited exhibition stands and witnessed improvements in the way government institutions are delivering services through technology, urging officials to safeguard gains already achieved through digital transformation.

The week-long exhibition brought together government agencies, public institutions, businesses and citizens in Dodoma under the theme: “Promoting Inclusive Accountability for Sustainable Service Delivery.”
