The government has secured financing for the long-awaited Kitusha–Kinampanda–Kisana–Kisiriri road project, marking a major step towards the construction of a strategic transport corridor expected to boost economic activity and improve connectivity in Iramba District.
Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba announced the development on Sunday, June 14, during a public meeting at Kinampanda Teachers’ College grounds in Singida Region, where he assured residents that the project had moved beyond the funding stage and was now awaiting completion of procurement procedures.
The road project is among several infrastructure investments being pursued by the government to improve transportation networks in rural areas and stimulate local economic growth.
“The financing agreement has already been signed. Funding is no longer an obstacle,” Dr. Nchemba told residents. “What remains is the process of securing a contractor so that construction can begin.”
He commended regional and local leaders for their role in facilitating the project, noting that the agreement had been witnessed by Singida Regional Commissioner and district authorities.
Once completed, the road will connect Kitusha, Kinampanda, Galangala, Kisana and Kisiriri before extending towards Sibiti, significantly reducing travel challenges and easing the movement of people, agricultural produce and other goods within the area.
Dr. Nchemba said the road would be built to modern standards and is expected to become one of the most advanced road networks in the region.
“This is not just another road project. It will be a modern transport corridor that supports economic development and improves the quality of life for our people,” he said.
The Regional Manager of the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in Singida, Engineer Claver Mwinuka, said the procurement process for a consulting engineer is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of June.
According to him, detailed designs and tender documents will be finalised thereafter, paving the way for the selection of a contractor, who is expected to be identified by September this year.
Engineer Mwinuka said the 38.5-kilometre road will be constructed with a width of 9.5 metres, exceeding the standard width of many TARURA roads.
He added that the project will feature more than 400 streetlights and modern bus stops, infrastructure expected to enhance safety, improve public transport services and support the growth of trading centres along the route.
Infrastructure development has remained a key pillar of the government’s development agenda, particularly in regions where road connectivity plays a critical role in unlocking agricultural and business potential.
In a separate announcement, Dr. Nchemba said the government would strengthen healthcare services in Kinampanda by delivering a new ambulance to Kinampanda Health Centre within the next two weeks.
The facility was constructed under the government's programme to establish health centres in every division, bringing essential healthcare services closer to communities.
“As part of our commitment to improving healthcare services, a new ambulance will soon be stationed at Kinampanda Health Centre to serve residents of this area,” he said.
The Prime Minister also revealed that preparations are progressing for several other road projects in Iramba District, including the Shelui–Nkongilangi–Tulya–Kidaru road, the Mtoa–Mtekente–Urugu–Mlandala–Sepuka road and the Iguguno–Nduguti–Gumanga–Sibiti road.
The projects are currently at various stages of design and planning and are expected to further strengthen transport links across the district.
For residents of Iramba, the signing of the financing agreement represents a significant milestone after years of anticipation, raising hopes that improved infrastructure will accelerate trade, attract investment and expand access to social services across the district.
