The Dar es Salaam Athletics Association (DAA) has scheduled a trial competition for June 13 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium as part of preparations for the National Athletics Championships set to take place on July 3 and 4 in Kibaha, Coast Region.

Speaking after the conclusion of the special athletics clinic that is held every Saturday at the stadium, DAA Vice Chairperson Elizabeth Tungaraza said the event would provide an opportunity to assess athletes’ performance levels and monitor their progress ahead of the national competition.

She commended young athletes, teachers, parents and coaches for their strong turnout at the clinic, noting that their continued participation is contributing significantly to the growth and development of athletics in Dar es Salaam.

“The upcoming trial competition will help us evaluate the athletes’ readiness and identify areas that require improvement before the National Championships,” she said.

The clinic was supervised by the region’s Head Coach, Eric Magesa, assisted by coaches Fred Mhegele, David Mabula and Issa Ismail.

The event also attracted the participation of Charles Maguzu, Senior Sports Officer from the National Sports Council (NSC), who praised DAA for its commitment to identifying and nurturing athletics talent.

“I decided to come and meet athletics stakeholders and congratulate them for the work they are doing. We are encouraged to see initiatives like these that continue to promote and develop the sport,” Maguzu said.

For his part, Coach Magesa urged athletes to maintain regular training sessions rather than relying solely on the weekly Saturday clinics, stressing that consistent practice is essential for improving competitiveness in upcoming competitions.

DAA has been conducting regular training clinics as part of its broader strategy to strengthen athletics development and prepare athletes for regional and national events.
