The National Arts Council of Tanzania (BASATA) and the National Museum of Tanzania have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation aimed at preserving, promoting and advancing the country’s cultural heritage.
The commitment was highlighted during a working visit by BASATA’s Acting Executive Secretary, Mr Edward Buganga, to the National Museum of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on June 5, 2026.
Mr Buganga was received by the Director General of the National Museum of Tanzania, Dr. Noel Lwoga, alongside senior officials from both institutions.
During their discussions, the two sides exchanged experiences on institutional operations and explored ways to enhance service delivery.
They also deliberated on strategies to strengthen collaboration in the preservation, development and promotion of Tanzania’s rich cultural heritage.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the leaders to identify areas of mutual cooperation that could contribute to the growth of the arts, culture and heritage sectors while ensuring that the country’s cultural resources continue to benefit both present and future generations.
The discussions underscored the importance of closer collaboration between cultural institutions in safeguarding Tanzania’s history, traditions and artistic expressions amid rapid social and technological changes.
Mr Buganga was accompanied by BASATA’s Acting Director of Arts Promotion and Development, Ms Lilian Shayo, as well as other officials from the council.
The visit is expected to pave the way for stronger institutional partnerships and joint initiatives aimed at enhancing public awareness and appreciation of Tanzania’s cultural and historical heritage.
