ACT-Wazalendo has intensified calls for party unity and grassroots mobilization, with senior leaders urging members to strengthen party structures as preparations for future elections gather momentum.

Speaking during the Chumbuni Constituency General Meeting in Unguja's Urban West Region on Saturday, Acting Chairperson of the party’s National Council of Elders, Masoud Khamis, said the continued holding of constituency general meetings across the country reflected the party’s growing organizational strength and commitment to internal democracy.

The meeting, held in accordance with the party constitution, brought together delegates and leaders to assess the party’s progress and discuss strategies for expanding its support base.

Masoud, who is also a member of the party’s National Executive Committee, said the period leading to the next elections was critical for building stronger party structures and increasing membership.

“Elections will not wait for us. The work of strengthening our party must continue now so that when the time comes, we are well-positioned to compete effectively in constituencies and for national leadership,” he told delegates.

He said ACT-Wazalendo’s broader ambition remained to secure leadership in Zanzibar, stressing that unity among party leaders and members would be essential in achieving that goal.

Masoud urged members to remain focused on the party’s reform agenda despite challenges facing the opposition political landscape.

“The opportunity to achieve the changes we seek is before us. We must remain united and committed to our mission because solidarity will make our journey easier,” he said.

The senior party official also cautioned members against being distracted by speculation surrounding ongoing political discussions involving the party, urging them to rely only on official statements from the leadership.

His remarks come at a time when political parties across Tanzania are strengthening their internal structures ahead of future electoral contests, with membership recruitment and organizational reforms becoming key priorities.

Chumbuni Constituency Chairperson Haji Idrisa said the constituency remained one of the party’s strongholds and pledged continued efforts to expand support and strengthen local structures.

Constituency Secretary Nassor Ali Amour said the meeting attained the required quorum, with 44 of the 78 delegates attending, equivalent to 55 percent of eligible members.

The gathering was attended by several national and regional ACT-Wazalendo leaders, including the party’s Secretary for Organisation, Planning and Training, Khamis Ali Salim.

Political analysts view constituency-level meetings as a key component of party-building efforts, providing a platform for leadership accountability, policy discussions and member engagement as parties position themselves for future electoral competition.
