Yas has expanded its digital and financial services presence in Zanzibar with the opening of a new store in Nungwi, Unguja North Region, in a move aimed at bringing services closer to communities and supporting the country’s growing digital economy.
The launch ceremony was held in Nungwi and officiated by the Mayor of North A Unguja Municipal Council, Nyange Kher Ali, who represented the Regional Commissioner for Unguja North Region.
The event brought together local leaders, business stakeholders, and residents who welcomed the new investment as an important step in improving access to communication services in one of Zanzibar’s key economic areas.
Speaking during the event, Nyange Kher Ali praised Yas Tanzania for continuing to invest in Zanzibar, saying the expansion supports government efforts to strengthen digital inclusion and create opportunities for young people.
He noted that improved access to communication services plays a major role in boosting economic activities such as tourism, fishing, and small-scale businesses in Zanzibar, particularly in growing hubs like Nungwi.
On her part, Yas Tanzania’s Director for Customer Experience and Operations, Ms. Mwangaza Matotola, said the new store reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring that all Tanzanians can access digital and financial services more conveniently and efficiently.
She explained that the expansion is part of Yas’ broader strategy to strengthen service delivery and support the growth of Tanzania’s digital economy.
She also highlighted that the company continues to invest in network infrastructure, including 4G and 5G technologies, with more than 4,800 towers now serving over 31 million customers across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Ms. Matotola added that Nungwi is a strategically important area due to its strong tourism industry, fishing activities, and growing commercial sector.
She said the new store will improve customer access to services and enhance overall user experience in the region.
She further encouraged residents to use the newly launched Yas App, which provides easier access to a wide range of digital services directly from mobile phones, reducing the need to visit physical outlets.
The Nungwi outlet becomes part of Yas’ expanding nationwide network of more than 556 stores, aimed at improving customer experience and increasing access to digital services across Tanzania as the country continues to advance its digital transformation agenda.
