Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, led national leaders and mourners in paying their last respects to the late Mrs. Suzana Ngolo Magufuli, the mother of the late Fifth Phase President, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli.
The funeral was held at Kilimani, Chato District in Geita Region, where hundreds of mourners gathered to honour a woman widely remembered for her role in shaping the family of one of Tanzania’s most influential leaders.
Speaking after the funeral service, Dr. Nchimbi conveyed President Samia’s deep condolences to the Magufuli family, relatives, friends and all Tanzanians who were touched by the passing of Mrs. Suzana Magufuli.
He said the President was saddened by the loss and had continued to stand with the family in both moments of illness and mourning, demonstrating unity and compassion at a national level.
Dr. Nchimbi urged Tanzanians to remember the late Suzana Magufuli as an example of strong parenting, discipline and patriotism.
He said her life should inspire families across the country to raise children who value integrity, hard work and service to the nation.
He added that one of the best ways to honour her legacy is to strengthen moral upbringing within families, ensuring that future generations are guided by values that place the nation first.
The Vice President also reflected on the role the late Suzana Magufuli played in nurturing the late President John Magufuli, saying her influence was evident in his leadership style, which was marked by dedication, firmness and commitment to public service.
He further noted that the widespread messages of condolence shared by citizens across social media platforms showed how deeply Tanzanians continue to value the legacy of the late President Magufuli.
According to him, such public reactions reflect the strong bond between leaders and citizens, built on years of service and national dedication.
Dr. Nchimbi also described the late Dr. John Magufuli as a leader who was deeply committed to defending national interests and empowering others, many of whom have gone on to serve in various leadership roles.
He said true leadership is measured not only by personal achievements but also by the positive impact one leaves behind in society and in the lives of others.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Simon Nyahinga expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her continued support, compassion and presence throughout the illness and passing of Mrs. Suzana Magufuli.
He said the family had experienced unwavering support from the President since the passing of the late Dr. John Magufuli, particularly during periods of medical care and mourning.
Mr. Nyahinga also thanked national leaders, retired leaders and the government for standing with the family and for facilitating all funeral arrangements and expenses.
The funeral mass was led by Archbishop Renatus Nkwande of the Mwanza Catholic Archdiocese, and was attended by bishops, priests, government leaders, retired senior officials and members of the public.
Mrs. Suzana Magufuli was laid to rest at the Magufuli family cemetery in Kilimani, Chato, bringing to a close a solemn national moment of reflection and remembrance.
