TRA engages customs stakeholders on digital service reforms

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has intensified efforts to modernise customs operations after bringing together customs stakeholders in Dar es Salaam to discuss improvements in service delivery and the growing use of digital systems in customs procedures.

The meeting, organised through the Customs Service Centre (CSC), was held on May 19, 2026, at the Port Building conference hall and provided a platform for stakeholders to raise concerns, share experiences and receive education on various customs procedures.

The discussions focused on improving efficiency, speeding up clearance processes and strengthening cooperation between TRA and customs stakeholders, including clearing and forwarding agents, importers and exporters.

Speaking during the meeting, Customs Service Centre Manager Regis Mmbando said continuous engagement with stakeholders is important in identifying operational challenges and finding timely solutions that can improve service delivery.

He said TRA remains committed to creating a more responsive and efficient customs system that supports business growth and facilitates trade.

Mmbando added that stakeholder education is also essential in helping traders and agents better understand customs procedures and comply with regulations, thereby reducing delays and unnecessary costs.

Representing the Commissioner for Customs, Port Customs Regional Manager Anangisye Mtafya praised the Customs Service Centre for continuing to organise interactive forums that allow stakeholders to contribute ideas and receive updates on reforms being implemented within the customs sector.

He encouraged stakeholders to embrace electronic systems when following up on services instead of making repeated visits to TRA offices, noting that the authority is investing heavily in digital solutions to improve convenience and efficiency.

Mtafya said the ongoing reforms are aimed at reducing bureaucracy, improving transparency and ensuring faster delivery of customs services at ports and border points.

The meeting forms part of TRA’s wider strategy to strengthen trade facilitation and improve the business environment through modern customs management systems and closer engagement with stakeholders.
