The Government of Tanzania, as the sole shareholder of Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB), has praised the bank’s strong financial performance after it posted a 44 percent increase in profit and raised dividends to the Treasury by 50 percent.

The commendation was delivered by Nehemia Mchechu, the Treasury Registrar representing the government shareholder, during the bank’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held today.

Speaking after the meeting, Mchechu said the government was impressed by the continued growth of the agricultural lender, citing improvements in profitability, balance sheet expansion and dividend payments.

“This year the bank has demonstrated very strong performance. Profit has increased by 44 percent, which shows the institution is continuing to grow and moving in the right direction,” he said.

According to TADB, the bank’s balance sheet expanded by 41 percent from TZS 917 billion in 2024 to nearly TZS1.3 trillion in 2025, reflecting what officials described as rapid institutional growth.

Following the improved results, the government approved a dividend payout of TZS 8.33 billion in 2025 financial year, up from TZS 5 billion paid during the previous financial year.

TADB Board Chairman Ismail Abdulile Kasekwa attributed the growth to sound governance, effective management and close cooperation between the board and executive leadership.

“These achievements are the result of strong management and collaboration between the board and the management team. We remain committed to ensuring the bank continues performing even better,” he said.

The bank’s Managing Director, Mr. Frank Nyabundege, said lending to agriculture, livestock and fisheries had continued to expand significantly, helping drive economic activity across rural Tanzania.

According to him, TADB’s loan portfolio increased from TZS 926 billion to more than TZS 1.34 trillion during the reporting period.

Mr Nyabundege said agriculture remains the backbone of Tanzania’s economy, employing the majority of the population, particularly in rural areas.

The bank has extended a total of TZS 807 billion to farmers in 2025, an increase of 51% from 534 billion recorded in the precedent year.

“More than 65 percent of Tanzanians depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Through our financing, we have directly or indirectly reached more than 2.6 million people,” the chief executive said.

The lender also acknowledged continued support from the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan through capital injections and cooperation with development partners.

According to the bank, the government has injected more than Sh352 billion into TADB during President Samia’s administration, contributing to annual growth averaging between 40 and 50 percent.
