Tanzania has stepped up its engagement in Africa’s growing nuclear energy agenda after Finance Minister Khamis Mussa Omar joined a high-level preparatory meeting ahead of the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA) in Kigali, Rwanda.
The meeting, chaired by Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi on Monday, brought together senior government officials and technical experts to align Tanzania’s participation in the continental summit taking place from May 18 to 21, 2026.
Held at the Tanzania Embassy in Kigali, the session was attended by Zanzibar’s Deputy Minister for Water and Minerals, Seif Pandu, Permanent Secretary for Electricity and Renewable Energy in the Ministry of Energy, Felchesmi Mramba, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Rished Bade, alongside experts from the ministries of Finance, Energy, Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, as well as specialists from the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission.
The NEISA summit has convened policymakers, energy specialists, investors and development stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to discuss innovation, financing and the safe application of nuclear technology in advancing economic and social transformation.
Tanzania’s participation reflects the country’s increasing interest in exploring modern and sustainable energy solutions as demand for reliable electricity continues to rise across the region.
Delegates at the summit are expected to deliberate on the future of nuclear energy in Africa, focusing on investment opportunities, energy security, industrial development and the role of advanced technologies in supporting long-term economic growth.
