President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the government and sports authorities to ensure Tanzania’s Under-17 national football team, Serengeti Boys, receives high-quality preparations ahead of this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Morocco.

The Head of State issued the directive shortly after Tanzania secured qualification for the global tournament following a convincing 3-0 victory over Angola in a match played yesterday.

In a congratulatory message shared through WhatsApp, President Samia hailed the young players for making the nation proud through what she described as a historic achievement for Tanzanian football.

“This success is a great source of pride for our nation and a clear demonstration of the talent, commitment and discipline of our young players in flying Tanzania’s flag on the international stage,” she said.

The President noted that the qualification reflects the growing strength of youth football in Tanzania and the increasing ability of local players to compete at the highest level internationally.

She added that the achievement should serve as motivation for other young Tanzanians to pursue their talents and contribute to national development through sports.

President Samia also encouraged the Serengeti Boys to remain focused and continue fighting for success in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

“I wish you all the best in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations competition, and I have directed the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports together with all relevant authorities to ensure proper preparations are made so that you represent our country excellently,” she said.

She stressed that the government is committed to creating a favourable environment for the team as it prepares for one of the world’s biggest football tournaments.

The Serengeti Boys’ qualification has been widely celebrated by football fans across the country, with many describing it as another sign of Tanzania’s rising profile in international football.
