The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Finance, has announced the continuation of a nationwide self-verification exercise for pension beneficiaries under the Treasury pension register, aimed at strengthening the accuracy of pension records and ensuring timely and secure payments to all rightful beneficiaries.
The exercise targets all pensioners receiving monthly payments from the Treasury, including retired public servants, police officers on disability pensions, as well as widows and widowers both inside and outside the country.
It also includes beneficiaries who were unable to complete the verification process during the first phase.
According to the Ministry, the first phase of the exercise was conducted from 15 January 2026 to 15 May 2026. Following its completion, the second phase has now been officially launched and will run from 1 June 2026 to 15 July 2026, giving pensioners another opportunity to complete their verification without interruption of their benefits.
The Ministry of Finance has directed all unverified pensioners to complete the process within the given period.
The verification can be done conveniently through commercial bank mobile banking applications using smartphones, or by visiting the bank branches where pension payments are normally received.
For pensioners who may experience challenges such as fingerprint mismatches or differences in names, the government has provided alternative support points.
These include nearby Treasury sub-offices, the Ministry of Finance headquarters, and the Office of the President – Finance and Planning in Zanzibar.
Beneficiaries are required to carry one of the following identification documents: a National Identity Card, a bank card copy, or a pensioner identification card to facilitate verification.
The Ministry has strongly reminded the public that all services related to this exercise are provided free of charge.
Pensioners have been urged to remain alert and avoid fraudsters who may attempt to take advantage of them during the process.
The government has also made official communication channels available for guidance and updates, including Facebook and X accounts (mofURT), Instagram (urtmof), YouTube (Hazina TV), WhatsApp services for the Ministry of Finance Tanzania, LinkedIn (Ministry of Finance Tanzania), and the official website mof.go.tz.
This verification exercise is part of the government’s ongoing reforms to improve public financial management, enhance transparency in pension payments, and ensure that all eligible beneficiaries continue to receive their rightful entitlements in a safe and efficient manner.
