Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), has arrived in Congo-Brazzaville to participate in the 61st Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the 52nd Annual Meetings of the African Development Fund (ADF), scheduled to take place from May 25 to 29, 2026, in Brazzaville.

Upon arrival at Maya-Maya International Airport, Ambassador Omar was received by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Congo-Brazzaville, Said Juma Mshana.

The Minister, who serves as Tanzania’s Governor to the AfDB, is accompanied by senior government officials including the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Paymaster General, Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, who is also the Alternate Governor to the Bank, and the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary and Commissioner for External Finance, Mr. Rished Bade.

The high-level meetings are expected to bring together more than 3,000 participants from across Africa and beyond.

These include Heads of State and Government, Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors, development partners, private sector leaders, civil society representatives, academics, and experts in development finance.

The meetings will be held at the International Conference Centre of Kintélé and are among the most important annual events for Africa’s development finance agenda.

They provide a platform for reviewing the Bank’s performance and setting priorities for accelerating economic growth and development across the continent.

This year’s theme, “Mobilizing Africa’s Financial Resources for Development in a Fragmented World,” highlights the urgent need for African countries to strengthen domestic resource mobilization and close the widening financing gap for development projects amid global economic uncertainties.

Discussions will also focus on key cross-cutting issues including digital transformation, institutional strengthening, and good governance.

These priorities align with global and continental frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and the African Development Bank’s High 5 development priorities.

Tanzania’s participation in the meetings underscores its commitment to strengthening cooperation with regional and international partners in advancing sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
