Tanzania, Brazil move to deepen strategic ties

Tanzania and Brazil have pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation as the two countries seek to unlock new opportunities in key sectors including agriculture, livestock, tourism, education, trade and investment.

The commitment emerged during talks held in Dar es Salaam on May 26 between Acting Director of the Europe and Americas Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ms Ellen Maduhu, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Gustavo Martins Nogueira.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of resolutions reached during the Political Consultations Meeting held in April in Brasília, Brazil, with both sides expressing optimism over the growing partnership between the two nations.

Ms Maduhu described Brazil as one of Tanzania’s important development partners and said the government remains committed to creating a favourable environment to attract more cooperation and investment opportunities.

She noted that strengthening relations with Brazil would help drive economic growth and social development while opening doors for knowledge exchange in strategic sectors.

“We value the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Tanzania and Brazil and look forward to expanding collaboration for the benefit of our people,” she said.

Ambassador Nogueira said Brazil was ready to continue sharing expertise with Tanzania, particularly in social development programmes such as poverty reduction initiatives, school feeding schemes and the provision of social services.

He identified livestock development as one of the most promising areas for future cooperation, saying Brazil was prepared to support Tanzania through modern livestock technologies aimed at improving productivity and enhancing the competitiveness of Tanzanian livestock products in global markets.

Brazil is globally recognised for its advanced livestock industry and agricultural technologies, areas Tanzania hopes to leverage as it pushes for increased value addition and export competitiveness.
