Tanzania and Comoros strengthen cooperation as new ambassador presents credentials in Moroni

Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening friendly and strategic cooperation with the Union of the Comoros following the formal presentation of credentials by its newly appointed ambassador in Moroni.

The Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Union of the Comoros, Salim Othman Hamad, presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Union of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, on May 21, 2026, during an official ceremony held at the Beit-Salam Presidential Palace in Moroni.

The ceremony marked an important diplomatic step that officially enables the ambassador to fully represent Tanzania in Comoros and strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

During the talks that followed the ceremony, President Azali Assoumani conveyed warm greetings from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan

He also expressed appreciation for the strong historical friendship and cooperation that continues to exist between Tanzania and Comoros, describing it as a relationship built on trust, shared values, and regional solidarity.

President Assoumani noted that he looks forward to closer collaboration with Tanzania in key development areas that directly benefit citizens of both countries. 

He highlighted opportunities in the blue economy, green economy, trade, investment, aviation and maritime transport, health services, education, and wider socio-economic development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.

On his part, Ambassador Salim Othman Hamad thanked President Assoumani for the warm reception and reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to further deepening bilateral relations. 

He emphasized that Tanzania will continue working closely with Comoros to expand cooperation in energy, agriculture, fisheries, trade, investment, health, education, economic diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges.

He also noted that strengthening these partnerships will help create more opportunities, enhance regional integration, and support sustainable development that benefits ordinary citizens in both countries.

The presentation of Letters of Credence is a key diplomatic procedure that officially confirms an ambassador’s authority to represent their country in a foreign state and advance national interests through diplomatic engagement.
