TANESCO brings services closer as Kimbiji district office opens

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has expanded its presence in Kigamboni with the launch of a new district office in Kimbiji, a move aimed at improving access to electricity services and easing the burden on residents who previously travelled long distances for assistance.

The office was inaugurated on May 4, 2026, by Kigamboni District Administrative Secretary Upendo Mahalu, who represented the District Commissioner.

She said the new facility is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery as demand for electricity continues to grow alongside development in the area.

Mahalu noted that residents of Kimbiji and neighbouring wards had long depended on regional offices in Tungi Mnadani, often facing delays and inconvenience.

She said the new office will help address those challenges by bringing services closer to the people and improving operational efficiency.

“The aim is to improve service delivery and match the pace of increasing electricity demand, which is central to national development. TANESCO deserves recognition for taking services closer to wananchi,” she said.

Kigamboni Member of Parliament Haran Sanga commended TANESCO for improvements in both operations and service approach, urging residents to safeguard electricity infrastructure.

He said the government continues to invest heavily in the energy sector and public cooperation is essential to protect those investments.

Acting Customer Service Manager Shamu Lameck said the utility is focusing on customer-centred services, including better communication and public awareness on electricity use and infrastructure.

“Our priority is the customer. We are working to ensure every client receives reliable and efficient service, and we appreciate the government’s support in achieving this,” he said.

The Kimbiji office will serve Kimbiji, Somangila, Pembamnazi and Kisarawe II wards. The launch was also marked by the handover of operational tools, including vehicles and three-wheelers, to improve mobility and speed in responding to customer needs.

The new office underscores TANESCO’s broader strategy to decentralise services and improve accessibility in fast-growing areas such as Kigamboni, where demand for electricity continues to rise.
