Prime Minister meets MPs to discuss infrastructure development plans

Prime Minister Dkt. Mwigulu Nchemba has met and held a working session with Members of Parliament from Mwanza, Mara and Simiyu, alongside senior government officials, to review ongoing and planned infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening transport systems and improving service delivery in the Lake Zone.

The meeting, held at the Speaker’s Hall in Parliament, Dodoma on Friday, May 15, 2026, focused on accelerating the implementation of key strategic projects, with special attention given to the completion of the Mwanza International Airport as well as the development of Serengeti and Musoma airports.

Participants included officials from the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Works, the Prime Minister’s Office – Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities, the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), and the Ministry of Finance, together with technical experts from various transport and infrastructure agencies.

The discussions reviewed the progress of major infrastructure works, including roads, railways, and airport development projects that connect Mwanza, Mara and Simiyu to other parts of the country and neighboring regions. 

Government experts presented updates on implementation status, financing arrangements, and challenges affecting timely completion of some projects.

Speaking during the session, the Prime Minister emphasized that infrastructure development remains a key driver of economic transformation, especially in boosting trade, tourism, agriculture and fisheries, which are the backbone of the Lake Zone economy. 

He stressed that efficient transport systems are essential in improving access to markets, reducing transport costs and creating jobs for citizens.

Members of Parliament raised concerns and shared views on how to fast-track stalled or delayed projects, insisting that communities expect timely delivery of development projects that directly improve their livelihoods. 

They also called for stronger monitoring and coordination to ensure value for money in all infrastructure investments.

The Prime Minister further directed continued close cooperation between ministries, Parliament and implementing agencies, stressing that proper coordination will help avoid delays and ensure that public funds are used effectively for the benefit of citizens.

Regional leaders, including the Mwanza Regional Commissioner and heads of key infrastructure institutions, also attended the meeting, providing technical input on ongoing projects and highlighting priority areas requiring immediate attention.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to speed up implementation of strategic infrastructure projects across the three regions, with government and MPs agreeing to maintain close follow-up mechanisms to ensure that development projects are completed on time and deliver real impact to citizens.
