The Ministry of Health has intensified efforts to strengthen the country’s preparedness against disease outbreaks through practical training and joint supervision of emergency, disaster and critical care services conducted in Gairo District, Morogoro Region.
The exercise, organized through the Ministry’s Emergency and Disaster Department, brought together healthcare professionals to sharpen their response skills and improve coordination during public health emergencies.
Speaking during the training on May 25, 2026, Gairo District Medical Officer, Dr. Boniphace Manditi, said the initiative is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to building a resilient healthcare system capable of responding quickly and effectively to outbreaks and other emergencies.
He said the practical sessions are designed to equip health workers with hands-on experience in handling emergency situations while ensuring quality healthcare services continue uninterrupted.
“Disease outbreaks require round-the-clock preparedness and the ability to make timely decisions. Through these practical trainings, healthcare professionals gain experience in real-life situations that strengthen their response capacity and coordination of emergency services,” said Dr. Manditi.
He noted that strengthening emergency healthcare systems remains a key priority for the Ministry of Health as Tanzania continues to improve its ability to detect and respond to emerging health threats.
Dr. Manditi further explained that continuous capacity building for health workers is essential in protecting communities and ensuring healthcare facilities remain prepared for any public health challenge.
Meanwhile, Nursing Officer and Training Coordinator, Theresia Haule, said the joint supervision approach allows experts and healthcare workers to collectively assess gaps in service delivery and develop practical strategies to improve emergency and critical care services.
She said the training is expected to strengthen outbreak response systems and enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to residents of Gairo District and surrounding areas.
The training reflects the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare preparedness and safeguard citizens against the growing risks of infectious disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.
