Nchemba urges stronger use of formal systems in agriculture sector

Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mwigulu Nchemba, has called for increased use of formal and regulated systems in the agricultural sector, saying they are essential for improving efficiency, transparency, and productivity in the country’s economy.

He made the remarks on 19 May 2026 while visiting the Tanzania Fertilizer Regulatory Authority (TFRA) exhibition booth during ongoing national exhibitions held at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma

The exhibitions are part of activities marking the 20-year anniversary of the Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board (WRRB).

The Prime Minister urged citizens to avoid informal business practices and instead use government-established systems in trade and agricultural activities.

He said formal systems help reduce fraud, improve accountability, and ensure better organization in agricultural markets.

He also encouraged institutions to continue educating the public on the importance of using regulated systems. He noted that awareness is key in reducing losses linked to unregulated sales of agricultural produce and inputs, including fertilizer and other farming materials.

Speaking at the Singida regional exhibition booth, Issack Charles said the government’s fertilizer subsidy programme has improved access to agricultural inputs for farmers.

He noted that the initiative has contributed to increased productivity and reduced production costs for many smallholder farmers.

He added that continued improvements in input distribution and market systems are important for strengthening the agricultural value chain and supporting rural livelihoods.

The government continues to implement reforms aimed at improving agricultural input supply, strengthening market systems, and expanding access to formal trade channels for farmers and traders across the country.
