The Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, has cautioned that political parties which fail to adhere to legal procedures and proper conduct could become a threat to national peace and security.
He said the danger arises when political leaders use speeches, publications, and public statements to promote unrest instead of encouraging dialogue, understanding, and unity among citizens.
Katambi made the remarks on Monday, May 25, 2026, in Parliament in Dodoma while concluding the budget debate for the Ministry of Home Affairs for the 2026/27 financial year.
He reaffirmed that the government, through his ministry, will continue to enforce laws and provide guidance to ensure peace, security, and national discipline are maintained across the country.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Home Affairs plays a central role in safeguarding peace and stability, adding that all stakeholders have a responsibility to respect and follow the country’s laws and regulations.
Katambi further noted that the government will continue to remind political actors and institutions of their obligations in upholding the rule of law, which he said is the foundation of national stability and development.
He also expressed concern over what he described as the tendency of some politicians to hide behind human rights arguments while overlooking their legal responsibilities.
He said this sometimes leads to unfair criticism of security organs when they carry out their lawful duties.
According to him, security agencies are mandated to interpret and enforce the law fairly and professionally in order to ensure compliance and protect citizens and national interests.
He called on all political actors to exercise responsibility in their communications and activities, stressing that peace and security depend on discipline, respect for the law, and cooperation among all citizens and leaders.
