The Minister of Finance, Khamis Mussa Omar, has underscored the strategic economic importance of Dodoma, outlining key investment opportunities that position the region as a growing hub for national development.

During a courtesy visit to the Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Rosemary Senyamule, the minister said the region offers a wide range of untapped opportunities across agriculture, trade, tourism and mining, which if effectively harnessed could accelerate economic growth and improve livelihoods.

The visit follows his recent appointment by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Mr Omar noted that Dodoma’s central location gives it a unique advantage to serve as a national commercial and logistics hub, linking various regions and facilitating the movement of goods within and beyond the country.

He pointed to the potential of developing dry port infrastructure to strengthen trade and distribution networks.

He said agriculture continues to employ a large share of Tanzanians and remains a key driver of the economy, with Dodoma offering favourable conditions for diverse crop production.

The region also holds promise in tourism and is endowed with significant mineral resources that could generate higher returns through value addition and processing.

“By integrating mineral resources from Dodoma with those from other regions and investing in value addition, we can create more jobs and increase income for our people,” he said.

On her part, Ms Senyamule said Dodoma has recorded notable development progress in recent years, driven by targeted strategies aimed at expanding economic sectors and improving social services.

She called on both public and private sector investors to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the region, particularly in the construction of international conference centres, development of five-star hotels and establishment of mineral processing industries.

“With the continued growth of Dodoma as the national capital, the demand for high-quality infrastructure and services is increasing, creating more room for investment,” she said.

The meeting was also attended by Dodoma Regional Administrative Secretary, Dr Khatibu Kazungu, as regional leaders reiterated their commitment to positioning Dodoma as a competitive economic centre.
