A delegation of Members of Parliament from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has held discussions with Tanzanian parliamentary committees in Dodoma aimed at strengthening governance cooperation, parliamentary diplomacy, and bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting took place on May 14, 2026 at the Parliament Offices in Dodoma, bringing together members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals from Tanzania, alongside visiting legislators from the DRC.

The discussions focused on key governance and development areas, including good governance, economic development, parliamentary diplomacy, public resource management, and the development of strategic infrastructure projects.

The engagement also aimed at building the capacity of the visiting lawmakers by exposing them to Tanzania’s experience in parliamentary oversight and national development planning.

Tanzanian Members of Parliament shared insights on the role of parliamentary committees in supporting national development, particularly in sectors such as energy, minerals, and national security.

They emphasized the importance of strong oversight systems to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient use of public resources.

The visit also highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional relations between the parliaments of Tanzania and the DRC.

Both sides agreed on the value of continued exchange programmes, study visits, and dialogue platforms to enhance legislative cooperation and improve governance practices.

The engagement is part of ongoing efforts to deepen the long-standing diplomatic and strategic relations between Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The two countries continue to expand cooperation in political, economic, and development areas through regular high-level exchanges and institutional partnerships.

The visit to Dodoma is expected to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation and contribute to improved mutual understanding of governance systems, while supporting broader regional collaboration between the two countries.
