Dodoma Region is expected to officially launch the 2026 Uhuru Torch Race on May 31, with 54 development projects worth more than TSh23 billion set to be inspected and inaugurated across all councils in the region.
This was announced today, May 29, 2026, in Dodoma City by Dodoma Regional Administrative Secretary, Khatibu M. Kazungu while speaking to journalists about preparations for the national event.
Dr. Kazungu said the Uhuru Torch will officially be received at Mtera Primary School grounds in Mpwapwa District before beginning its journey across various parts of Dodoma Region.
He noted that during the entire race, the Uhuru Torch will pass through all seven districts and eight councils of Dodoma Region, covering a total distance of 1,595.3 kilometres.
According to Dr. Kazungu, among the 54 projects to be visited by the Torch, 21 projects will have foundation stones laid, two projects will be officially inaugurated, 20 projects will be launched, while 11 projects will be inspected.
“All projects expected to be visited by the Uhuru Torch are valued at TSh23,243,056,418.58. The funds have been sourced from the Central Government, local council revenues, community contributions, as well as donors and other development stakeholders,” said Dr. Kazungu.
He explained that the Central Government contributed more than TSh10.6 billion, local councils contributed over TSh4.1 billion, wananchi contributed more than TSh1.8 billion, while donors and development partners provided over TSh6.6 billion.
He further stated that the Torch race schedule will begin on May 31 in Mpwapwa District Council before proceeding to Dodoma City on June 1, followed by Bahi, Kondoa, Kondoa Town, Chemba, Chamwino and concluding in Kongwa on June 7 this year.
The theme for the 2026 Uhuru Torch Race is: “Tanzania Belongs to All of Us, Let Us Unite Together to Bring Development.”
The Dodoma Regional leadership has urged citizens to turn out in large numbers to participate in welcoming the Uhuru Torch and in various related activities aimed at promoting patriotism, unity and national development.
Dr. Kazungu said the Uhuru Torch continues to serve as an important symbol of hope, unity and development for all Tanzanians.
