Dodoma Region today officially received the 2026 Uhuru Torch at Mtera Primary School grounds in Mpwapwa District after it arrived from Iringa Region.

Speaking during the reception ceremony, Dodoma Regional Administrative Secretary, Khatibu Kazungu, said the Uhuru Torch will cover a distance of 1,595.3 kilometres across all seven districts and eight councils of Dodoma Region.

During the race, the torch will pass through, launch, lay foundation stones for and inspect various development projects worth a total of TZS 23.24 billion.

Dr. Kazungu received the torch from Iringa Regional Administrative Secretary, Doris Kalasa, and noted that Dodoma Region has major strategic projects that will be visited by the Uhuru Torch this year.

He said the achievements have largely been made possible through the efforts of the Sixth Phase Government under the leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has continued to allocate substantial funds for the implementation of development projects in various sectors within Dodoma Region.

“We thank and congratulate President Samia Suluhu Hassan for continuing to provide sufficient resources for the implementation of development projects in Dodoma Region. These strategic projects have continued to open up the region economically, strengthen social services and make Dodoma an important destination for investment and tourism,” said Dr. Kazungu.

He further stated that residents of Dodoma Region highly value the contribution of the Uhuru Torch in promoting unity, solidarity and patriotism among Tanzanians.

“In an environment of peace and national unity, our nation continues to prosper, attract investors and promote social and economic development. No nation can achieve economic success without peace and solidarity among its citizens,” he emphasized.

Dr. Kazungu added that residents and leaders in Dodoma Region have continued to uphold and implement the permanent message of the Uhuru Torch, which encourages patriotism, accountability and public participation in national development, alongside this year’s slogan:

“Tanzania belongs to all of us; let us unite together to bring development.”
